Which half marathons have a lottery?
7 lotteries: New York, Brooklyn, Berlin, Valencia, the Royal Parks, Paris and the Great North Run. 4 first come, first served races, no lottery: Marseille-Cassis (20 km), Barcelona, Gothenburg and Bogotá.
Do you need to rush on opening day?
Yes for the 4 races with no lottery: in 2026, Marseille-Cassis sold out in a few hours, Gothenburg in ~3 days, Barcelona in 7 days; Bogotá closes as soon as it is full (May 15 for 2025). No for the 7 lotteries: entering on the first or the last day gives the same odds. One exception: in Valencia, runners from the previous edition must enter during their priority days, or they go back into the lottery.
What if you aren't drawn, or the race is sold out?
- The waiting list: Valencia (€100 in 2026), Gothenburg (free).
- Official resale: Marseille-Cassis (Swika, plus name changes from June to early October), Barcelona (Marketplace).
- A charity place: running for a cause and raising money (Royal Parks, Great North Run, New York, Brooklyn, Berlin).
- An official tour operator: a package that includes the bib (New York, Valencia, Berlin).
- A guaranteed place: New York keeps places for fast runners; Brooklyn gives them to those who ran 6 NYRR virtual races (Virtual 6) during the year.
- The Valencia, Royal Parks, Paris, Brooklyn, Marseille-Cassis, Barcelona, Gothenburg and Berlin dates: estimated from the previous edition, to be confirmed by each organizer.
- Gothenburg: prices from marathons.com, not yet checked on the official website. Brooklyn: 2027 bib price not yet published. Official website
